Roma boss Rudi Garcia believes that the Lupi are currently stronger than they were at this point last year as they continue preparing for their first match of the Serie A season on August 31.

The Giallorossi, who were able to stage a comeback in their 3-3 friendly draw against Fenerbahce on Tuesday, have been doing well throughout the pre-season and the tactician insists that his players will be ready to succeed in both Italy and the Champions League during the 2014-15 campaign.

Garcia spoke to the press after the draw with Fenerbahce about how he will help Roma improve ahead of their Serie A opener against Fiorentina and their return to the European competition, but refused to make any predictions for the new season.

“These friendly games have really taught me a lot and this evening I see some things more clearly,” said the 50-year-old.

“Roma finds itself back in Europe after a few disappointing seasons, and a season is already never calm even without playing in Europe.

“We will be considered outsiders in the Champions League and this can help us a lot. The players will have to be 100 per cent ready in both the physical and mental aspects of the game.

“It will bother me if the players’ attitudes are not 100 per cent right in the league both before and after our Champions League games.

“My role is to make sure that everyone gives their all on the field before we begin playing in the Champions League.

“I won’t make any predictions about our matches because that’s the best way to get in trouble. The team is stronger than last year.”
