Juventus starlet Daniele Rugani has officially signed a new contract that will run until 2019 but he will remain on loan with Empoli this season.

The 20 year old Italian defender enjoyed a successful loan spell at Empoli last season, helping them to second place and automatic promotion to the Serie A.

Sport Italia report that Juventus thought about keeping the youngster with them for this campaign, but ultimately decided regular football was most important at this stage of Rugani’s career.

Rugani is currently co-owned by Juventus and Empoli, and the Old Lady will have a chance to redeem the remaining 50% of Rugani’s contract at the end of the season for a fixed clause of €3 million.

Empoli will be hoping to stave off relegation in their first season back in the top flight since 2008.
