The 33-year-old Cameroonian is without a club after being released from Chelsea at the end of the season and has been placed on stand-by by the Anfield club.

According to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool coach Brendan Rogers has lined up Eto’o as there are doubts over Balotelli’s attitude, and Rogers wants a face-to-face meeting with the Italian before sanctioning the move.

It is believed Eto’o had a medical in Paris on Friday and will be offered a one-year contract, and is thought to want to join a club in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Balotelli was seen at Liverpool’s Melwood training centre where he also had a medical ahead of his €20 million move from AC Milan.
