Liverpool have offered defender Sebastian Coates to Sampdoria in exchange for goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

The 23-year-old Uruguayan international has just made five league appearances in the last two years at Anfield mainly due to injuries.

Meanwhile, Doria are on the lookout for a replacement for star defender Shkodran Mustafi, who left the club last week to join Valencia.

Il Secolo XIX report that due to the wealth of options Liverpool have at the back, boss Brendan Rodgers have offered the defender out to Serie A outfit Sampdoria.

In return, they would like to exchange goalkeeper and Argentinian World Cup hero Sergio Romero, as a replacement for Pepe Reina who left for Bayern Munich last week.

Romero was close to a move to Benfica a month ago, before the move collapsed.
