Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu had conceded that it’s hard to hold on to players when Serie A sides come calling.

AC Milan are hot on the heels of forward Douglas Costa whilst Fiorentina have steeped up their interest in defensive midfielder Fernando Martins.

“All our players can move as we are not a club that blocks players’ transfers,” the 69-year-old said in an interview with Sky Sport Italia.

“It is important that the club finds an agreement and that the players also agree personal terms. If Milan want Diego Costa, they should have the money, in addition to the prestige, to be able to sign him.

25 million? I’m not discussing finances. These are questions you have to ask the president, but we have to take into account the fact that these players arrived when they were 18 or 19 years old and have since become great at Shakhtar.”

The Romanian tactician then spoke about his 22-year-old holding midfielder who is excited by a potential move to Florence.

“Fernando? It is only normal for a player to be delighted about the prospect of playing in Italy but their [Fiorentina] offer is not just low, but very low.

“We got him last year and we paid so much for a young man with a great future; but I want to win the league, and if I have to leave these players out of the squad then there must be a valid reason.

“If they are really interested [in moving abroad], then they will have to speak with the company. If not, they remain.

“It also depends on the player, but if he wants to go then I won’t come in his way. However, he can only leave under the right conditions.

“A loan deal seems like the best option for everyone. Two million is a good fee, but there must be a moral obligation to purchase the player once his  loan has ended.

“They cannot send the player back to us, and in my experience, when there are loan deals with the right to purchase the player on a permanent basis, they are not redeemed very often.

“There are still two weeks left, we’ll see what happens.”

Douglas Costa arrived at Shakhtar in 2010 for a fee of 6 million and has since become one of the side’s most crucial components, while Fernando cost the Ukrainians 11m in 2013.
