Mancini GalatasarayRoberto Mancini has said he was never contacted regarding the then vacant position of becoming coach of Italy.

The 49-year-old, who left Galatasaray by mutual consent following the 2013-14 season, also spoke of his former striker at Manchester City, Mario Balotelli – having signed for Liverpool in late August.

“I was never contacted for the Italian job”, Mancini told Sky Sport Italia.

“I have no reason to therefore be upset.

“Of course I would have liked to coach my own nation and maybe there is still time for that to happen. But to re-alliterate, I was never contacted.”

The former Manchester City boss went on to talk about Italian forward Mario Balotelli following his move to Liverpool.

“Balotelli needs to show what qualities he has when at Liverpool as he will not have many more opportunities to demonstrate his ability.

“He needs to understand this and to take his chance.”
