Juventus director general Beppe Marotta has revealed that Arturo Vidal never asked the Italian side for permission to begin negotiations with another club despite rumours claiming otherwise.

The 27-year-old midfielder had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks with many reports suggesting that he was already in advanced talks with the Red Devils, though the Bianconeri executive insists that the Chilean star never expressed any intention to leave Turin.

Marotta spoke to Sky Sport Italia about the rumours surrounding Vidal’s departure from Juventus and blamed the majority of the false claims on the media.

“The supposed deal was mostly fuelled by the media” said the 57-year-old.

“He had never asked us to leave because he had recently signed a renewal with us not too long ago. There haven’t been any requests to leave Juve on his part.”

Vidal scored 11 goals and provided six assists in his 32 Serie A appearances for the Bianconeri last term.
