Lazio captain Stefano Mauri insists his side are raring to open their campaign against AC Milan.

The Aquile travel to the San Siro on Sunday as they face an under-fire Rossoneri outfit that will be fired up to prove the critics wrong.

“For me, it’s always important to play in Milan since I am from Lombardy,” Mauri told the official Lazio radio channel.

“[Milan] did not have a good pre-season, but in the Tim Trophy they have shown to be ready.

“It’s up to us to prove that we are stronger: we hope to start in on the right foot and bring Lazio back to the top.”

When pressed about how he see’s his own team going in the new season, Mauri was confident that this would be a good year for the Lazio fans.

“So far I have seen a friendly and dedicated team ready with great desire to show we are better than last year. I am convinced that we will do well.

“The new players and coach have brought enthusiasm and desire. Changing the coach is never easy for several reasons.

“The relationship between the players and coach is always important, and right now it is to understand what the coach wants.”
