Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has spoken to the media ahead of Sunday evening’s Serie A opener against Palermo.

The Blucerchiati are looking to improve on a 12th place finish last season, however, Mihajlovic is not expecting an easy encounter against the newly promoted Sicilians.

“Tomorrow’s game against Palermo will be complicated for us, especially since it is their first game back in Serie A,” the Serbian tactician told reporters on Saturday.

“We want to start strong but we expect strong resistance from Palermo.

“We want to make to make a good start to the season and want to finish in the top half of the table this campaign.

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank the president Massimo Ferrero who has kept his promises and Carlo Osti who did very in the transfer market.

“It is now down to me and the players to put this work into practice on the field.

“We will be focussed tomorrow, and throughout the season and we want to entertain our fans as we have determination and belief to succeed.”

Mihajlovic is participating in his first full season as Sampdoria coach after taking over from Delio Rossi in November 2013. He has also had spells as coach of Fiorentina, Bologna and Catania in Serie A.
