Diego Milito says that his experience at Inter last season had an impact upon his decision to return to Argentina.

The 35-year-old joined fellow Argentineans Javier Zanetti, Walter Samuel and Esteban Cambiasso in leaving the Nerazzurri this summer, but Milito was the only one of the four to return to Argentina with Racing Club.

“Why do players never come back to Argentina? We should respect the decisions of each player,” the former Genoa striker said in an interview with FIFA.com.

“I can only talk about my case because I don’t know the choices of others.”

Milito left Racing Club in 2003 for Genoa having scored 34 goals in four seasons in Avellaneda, and now returns after spending 11 years in Europe.

“I’ve always had in mind to come back one day and finish my career with the club I started with.

“It’s a personal decision, I’m happy because I made it with my heart and I don’t think I will regret it.”

The former Real Zaragoza man was afforded legendary status at Inter after scoring two goals in the club’s first Champions League final victory in 45 years as part of the treble winning side of 2010.

However a number of bad injuries in recent years led to the end of Milito’s career at the San Siro this summer after five seasons with the club.

“It’s clear that the lack of continuity I had at Inter last year after a serious injury has weighed on my decision.

“Some players can be satisfied with their situation even if they don’t play. But I always said I wanted to offer something new to the club.

“I lived very well in Milan, my family also. But I decided to make a change and my wife and my children have supported me.”
