Liverpool Lucas LeivaLiverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva appears to be edging closer to completing a move to Napoli, as the Azzurri attempt to strengthen their midfield ahead of next season.

Lucas has been repeatedly linked with a summer transfer to Naples, with interest in the 27-year-old Brazilian only cooling down after Napoli coach Rafael Benitez turned his attention towards Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

However according to a report from Sky Sport Italia, Lucas could finally reunite with his former coach Benitez by the end of the summer transfer window, as Fellaini’s potential move to Napoli was put in jeopardy after suffering an ankle injury in training.

The major obstacle to completing a deal for Lucas’s transfer to the Stadio San Paolo remains whether a deal would be agreed on a permanent switch or a loan move, as Napoli are said to be interested in the latter due to concerns over the Brazilian’s long history of injuries.
