david lopez espanyolNapoli have secured the signature of Espanyol midfielder David Lopez.

The Partenopei have been in the hunt for some reinforcements in the middle of the park during this summer’s transfer window, and after days of protracted negotiations, have signed the 24-year-old for a reported €5 million.

“On Saturday morning, Espanyol and Napoli reached an agreement concerning the transfer of David Lopez,” read a statement on the Spanish club’s website.

“Following this, he will be flying in to Italy in order to undergo a medical and finalize all transfer details.”

The Barcelona-born defensive midfielder began his professional career in 2008 with the club, in which he spent two seasons in the team’s reserves as well as spending a year on loan with lower-division side Terrassa for the 2009-2010 season.

After two more loan deals with fellow lower-tier sides Leganes and Huesca, he then returned to his parent club for last season.

This will represent the first move outside Spain for Lopez, who has yet to feature for his national team.

However, he has played for Catalonia, earning his solitary cap as a result of featuring in a match against Cape Verde back in 2013.
