Newcastle United’s full-back Davide Santon is subject to interest from Roma.
The 23-year-old Italian can play on either flank, and would provide competition for the the Giallorossi’s current full-back options Ashley Cole and Maicon.
According to Il Messaggero, sporting director Walter Sabatini is working hard to bring Santon back to Italy, having departed for Newcastle in 2011 for an undisclosed fee.
Earlier in the summer, it was reported that Fiorentina’s approach for the defender was rejected, only for Santon to not feature in either of The Magpies opening fixtures, despite having made 27 appearances last season.
The ex-Inter man has eight caps for the Italian national side, after progressing through the national youth teams, and breaking into the Inter side in 2008/09.
Roma are perhaps in need of greater squad depth, as they tackle both domestic and European fronts this season; they’ll be in Pot 4 for the Champions League group stage draw made at 17:45 CET on Thursday.
