Roma on the verge of signing Greek defender ahead of Arsenal

Roma are close to announcing the signing of Greek defender Kostas Manolas from Olympiacos who was also the subject of interest from English side Arsenal.

The Giallorossi are believed to be waiting for the sale of Mehdi Benatia to Bayern Munich to be confirmed before they can officially unveil the 23-year-old Greek international as a Roma player.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, the capital side’s sporting director Walter Sabatini has concluded both deals and it is expected that Manolas will be presented on either Tuesday August 26 or the day after once Benatia’s exit is made official.

Manolas reportedly arrived at Rome’s Fiumincino airport on the morning of August 26 in order to undergo his medical later in the day.

The transfer fee has been reported as €13 million for the young centre-back.

Manolas made 25 league appearances and scored three goals for Olympiacos in the 2013-14 Superleague Greece season that his club won by 17 points.

He also made four appearances at the 2014 World Cup for the Greek national side and featured seven times in the Champions League for Olympiacos.
