Roma have acted swiftly in identifying 30 year old Greek defender Jose Holebas as a replacement for the already departed Mehdi Benatia.

Roma head coach Rudi Garcia faces the difficult challenge of trying to replace Mehdi Benatia, a defensive stalwart for the Serie A side last season, who was an integral part of a Roma defense which only conceded seven goals during the whole 2013/14 campaign, boasting the best defense across Europe’s five main leagues.

Holebas, who currently plays for Greek Superleague champions Olympiacos, looks set to become the Giallorossi’s second defensive signing in a matter of days, according to Sky Sport Italia, after former teammate Kostas Manolas made the same move from the Greek giants to the Italian outfit for a transfer fee in the region of €10 million.

It is thought the Greek international could have his medical in the Italian capital as early as Saturday.

Having already acquired central defender Manolas to fill the gap left in the heart of his sides defence, Garcia believes the 30 year old, who won the Greek domestic title four years running during his time with the current Superleague holders, can add further strength in depth to his squad and create competition for places in his starting eleven.
