Mattia Destro’s departure from Roma could still happen, as Tottenham Hotspur maintain their interest in the Italian striker.

A summer of speculation continues for the forward, who took no part in Roma’s friendly victory over Wiener SK, a matter officially put down to a stomach complaint.

However, as Il Messagero report, Spurs are still in the hunt and Destro’s future is in further doubt after Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini made a visit to England last week.

Another factor in this potential deal is that of Mehdi Benatia; with Mattia Destro’s move being more likely if Benatia’s exit fails to happen.

With Benatia still not subject to the right offer, a big move from Tottenham could see Roma more inclined to accept a sale to White Hart Lane, especially as the London club are understood to be very keen on Destro.

Destro, who failed to make the Italian World Cup squad for Brazil, broke into the Giallorossi team last season with 13 goals in 20 appearances.
