Palermo striker Abel Hernandez is reported to be a target for Sunderland, with his agent currently in England trying to negotiate a move.

Uruguayan international forward Hernandez played a vital part in Palermo’s promotion back to Serie A, scoring 14 goals in Serie B for the Sicilians, and has long been considered a striker of great promise, though injuries have hampered his development to date.

And according to TuttoMercatoWeb, the 23 year old could be united with compatriot Gus Poyet, the current Sunderland manager, who is considering making the forward his marquee signing this summer, with Palermo believed to be more likely to sell the player abroad.

While interest in the player remains high in Italy, the likes of Inter having been linked recently, its believed the main opposition to any deal for Sunderland could come from within Britain, with cash rich Southampton considering adding the versatile striker to their squad.

With such strong interest, Palermo face a struggle holding onto their star player.
