Torino held Inter to a 0-0 stalemate at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin on Sunday night.

The Nerazzurri dominated possession but could not unlock the Granata’s defence whilst Samir Handanovic also saved Marcelo Larrondo’s penalty.

Yann M’Vila had the first attempt of the game after he reacted first to a loose ball on the edge of the box, but he dragged his shot wide of the post.

Toro were awarded a controversial penalty in the 20th minute as Nemanja Vidic pulled Fabio Quagliarella down in the box, however replays showed that there was minimal contact.

Larrondo stepped up but had his weak effort saved by Handanovic in what was his 14th penalty save in the last five seasons.

Just before the half-hour mark, Mauro Icardi had a goal correctly disallowed when he strayed behind the Torino defence.

Andrea Ranocchia had the chance to put Inter in the lead after latching onto a Jonathan cross, but failed to guide the ball into the net.

Torino had two chances at the start of the second half as Cesare Bovo had a curling effort held comfortably by the Nerazzurri goalkeeper while Quagliarella fired wide from six yards out after latching onto Larrondo’s header.

Pablo Osvaldo was then brought on to partner Icardi in attack for Inter and nearly started off well with a header which went wide of the post.

Hernanes then played a ball to Osvaldo whose chance was smothered well by Daniele Padelli.

With just five minutes left Inter had a good claim for a penalty when Kamil Glik brought down Icardi in the box, but the referee signalled a free-kick to Torino.

Just before the whistle Vidic was sent off for a sarcastic applaud of the referee after failing to award the Serb a free-kick.
