Carlo TavecchioUEFA has officially opened a disciplinary investigation against the president of the FIGC, Carlo Tavecchio.

When submitting his application for the job as the chief of Italian football, the 71-year-old remarked, “Here, in Italy, let’s say there is Opti Poba [a fictional player], who has come here, who previously was eating bananas, and is now a first-team player for Lazio,” for which he now faces potential disciplinary action.

According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, Tavecchio is ready to submit a statement of defense, despite having already apologised to European football’s governing body.

The FIGC were also asked to investigate the comments by FIFA prior to Tavecchio’s election.

The former vice president of the FIGC beat Demetrio Albertini with 63.33 per cent of the votes in the third round following two prior inconclusive rounds.
