Athletic Club coach Ernesto Valverde described the 3-1 Champions League victory over Napoli as an historic night for the Bilbao club.
Athletic now qualify for the group stages of the competition after the 4-2 aggregate win over Rafael Benitez side and the Basque boss was quick to praise the San Mames crowd for playing there part.
“The difference was made by the crowd at the San Mames, as they helped push the players no tonight and they never lost faith”, Valverde told Sport Mediaset.
“Of course we kept calm, as we had prepared to face a difficult game against a great team like Napoli.
“This is an historic day for us, because after 16 years we are back in the Champions League group stages”, he added.
Athletic will now go into Pot 3 in the draw for the group stages which takes place on Thursday.
