Torino head coach Giampiero Ventura spoke after the away draw to Croatian side RNK Split.

The Granata coach bemoaned the state of the playing surface but was hopeful the return league would provide a different result.

“Today the pitch was in poor condition,” he told the club’s official website, “but you have to give credit to Split for how they played in the match.

“We will have a week of training which will give us more in the way of fitness ,and the playing surface is sure to be in excellent condition.

“In the end we committed some avoidable errors. Barreto and Larrondon acquitted themselves well.”

The veteran coach also explained why Fabio Quagliarella came off the bench and didn’t start

“Quagliarella? He is a little short of preparation at the minute so it was sense to not start him.”
