Torino head coach Giampiero Ventura has admitted there is too much talk around Alessio Cerci’s future and has omitted him for the second leg of their Europa League qualification tie against RNK Split.

The Granta host Split on Thursday evening following a goalless draw in the first leg last week and now Ventura has revealed just why he is not prepared to play his star man.

“There has been too much talk about him [Cerci] and his future,” Ventura told reporters at a press conference ahead of Thursday’s crucial European tie.

“Every day he is linked with a new team and Cerci would not be in the right place mentally to play.

“We will have to wait until the end of the transfer window [for an outcome].”

Ventura then turned his attentions to the upcoming fixture.

“Tomorrow’s game is very important, it is the culmination of work over the last four years.

“We have a few absentees, but we are working hard to be in the best condition and we will make use of the best of what we have.

“There are many new players at the club, foreigners, who will need time to adapt, but a good result in Europe could accelerate this period of adaptation.”
