Torino midfielder Giuseppe Vives believes the state of the pitch played a big role in the Granata being held to a 0 – 0 draw with RNK Split.

The Turin based club had chances to win the first leg of the Europa League play-off round in Croatia but it was the performance of RNK goalkeeper Andrija Vukovic that kept the sides level.

“The pitch had a great influence on the game,” he told the club’s official website. “It was difficult to even stand on, let alone to play as fast as we usually do.”

However, the 34 year old is confident that Torino will qualify for the Europa League Group Stage.

“We have 90 minutes in the return game, in our stadium, to take advantage of the chance to go to the group stages.”

The experienced midfielder joined the club in 2011 making 88 appearances and helped them achieve an eighth place in last season’s Serie A.
