Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that recent claims of the English club’s supposed pursuit of AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli are all false and insists that he has no intentions of selling Joel Campbell.

The 23-year-old Rossoneri striker has been heavily linked with a move away from the Serie A side since his unimpressive performance at the World Cup earlier this summer and many believed that the Gunners were the frontrunners in securing his signature, though the team’s coach has denied any interest in the controversial star.

Wenger spoke during a press conference on Friday about Arsenal’s progress during this summer’s transfer window thus far, while also commenting on his plans for Campbell and the possibility of selling Thomas Vermaelen.

“I am very pleased by what the club has done during this transfer market,” said the 64-year-old.

“We’ve taken the players that we wanted and I hope we can still do more. There’s still a month of open market left and we are a bit ahead of what we usually do because the availability on the market has been bigger than before.

“Vermaelen is injured at the moment, but his transfer is a possibility.

“Juan Quintero? We have never tried to buy him.

“For weeks we were buying Balotelli from one minute to the other and it was all wrong. We do not master all the noises that come out.

“Campbell instead has a place in my plans and could play in a friendly match against Benfica tomorrow.”
