New Cagliari coach Zdenek Zeman has paid tribute to his squad after their recent friendly draw with Cypriot outfit Apollon Limassol.

The Sardi drew 1-1 in their pre-season clash, with 17 year old local junior Antonio Loi netting for the Serie A outfit.

“At this moment, the team is overloaded physically,” Zeman admitted to the official Cagliari website.  “Today we struggled but football is another thing.”

“When there are fresh ideas and we are better physically, we can do more. Our goal was an example of the football that I want to see and was one of the few good things about today.

“The support from the fans? I knew that people in Sardinia were attached to the team, but I was not expecting so much enthusiasm.

“I hope the fans will support us during the season and help these young people to grow. We have many talented guys, we will be able to show it during this season.”
