AC Milan captain Riccardo Montolivo has revealed that he has been impressed by new coach Filippo Inzaghi’s first few months in charge at the club.

Inzaghi replaced Clarence Seedorf as first-team coach in June and began the Serie A season with a 3-1 win against Lazio, but the captain believes his influence has been greater than just on the pitch.

“I think that a good start is half the battle and I see the guys at the total disposal of Pippo,” the 29-year-old said at the Milan Foundation Charity Golf Challenge 2014 event as reported by Milannews.it.

“I was surprised by Inzaghi’s energy, and I believe it is evident during his celebration.

“Moreover he has clear ideas, which is a difficult thing for a young coach.

“The first point of his project has been the respect of the rules, of people and of the pitch and we all care about these details.”

The midfielder also commented on speculation that he could return from injury sooner than expected after suffering a leg break playing for the Azzurri in a goalless draw against the Republic of Ireland in May.

“My return? It’s difficult to say, I think the right thing is to wait,” he continued.

“At the end of the month I have an examination and then I’ll be able to know something about it.

“My return to the national team? It comes after my recovery with Milan, even though Antonio Conte came to speak with me to better understand my condition.”
