AC Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo could make his return from injury as soon as November.
The 29-year old suffered a broken leg in a pre-World Cup friendly while playing for Italy against the Republic of Ireland, and was expected to be sidelined until early 2015.
However, La Gazzetta Dello Sport reports that the playmaker could return to action much sooner than expected. The newspaper reports that Montolivo will return to training at the end of September, training alone as medical staff assess his recovery.
Should Montolivo be deemed to have recovered sufficiently, he will rejoin his team-mates in training with the goal of returning to competitive action by November.
Montolivo was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dismal campaign for the rossoneri last season. Despite his team only finishing in eighth place in Serie A, Montolivo himself managed three goals and four assists in 29 Serie A games.
