Massimiliano Allegri claims that Juventus must improve if they are to proceed in this year’s Champions League after defeating Malmo 2-0 in their opening fixture.

Juventus were unimpressive in the first-half and required a Tevez-inspired insurrection on the Malmo defence as they secured three points ahead of a tough task away at Atletico Madrid.

Allegri told Sky Sport Italia, “We know there are physical teams in the Champions League, we had to be faster when shooting.

“We were a bit messy in the first half, better in the second half and it was important to start well because it will be a difficult group.”

Allegri reflected on the performance by saying that his team played well, but must improve if they are to compete with the top teams.

“The boys are doing well but can improve, both physically and mentally,” he claimed.

The victory over Malmo was the first time Juventus claimed a victory in their opening Champions League group game since 2008 and has given them a strong start in their bid to qualify for the knock-out round.
