Genoa defender Luca Antonelli has admitted it is a huge honour to be named the captain of Rossoblu ahead of the new season.

The 27-year old spoke at a celebration where the club celebrated their 121st anniversary, and the weight of being captain of Italy’s oldest club was not lost on Antonelli.

“Being a part of Genoa is something unique. To be a captain of Genoa brings you an extra responsibility,” Antonelli told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s an honour to captain the oldest club in Italy.

“If president Enrico Preziosi is aiming for seventh or eighth place then it is good.”

Antonelli scored three goals in 31 appearances for Genoa last season.
