Napoli coach Rafa Benitez spoke with great optimism to the press following his side’s 3-1 victory over Sparta Prague in the Europa League.
The Spaniard was pleased with how his side reacted, after going down a goal to the Czech side just ten minutes into the match before Gonzalo Higuain equalized with a penalty and Dries Mertens netted a brace at the Stadio San Paolo.
“How the team reacted is what I liked,” the coach said during his post match interview.
“We conceded a goal but we played a good game and created even more. We made so many shots on goal but they do not always pay off, as seen with Chievo.”
The 54-year-old then praised the performances of his recently scrutinized squad.
“Higuain is a very important player, but also Mertens and the defence played well. [Aurelio] De Laurentiis? When the team has a performance like that the president must be happy.”
