Former Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has told reporters that he believes Anfield is the ideal place for new signing Mario Balotelli to thrive.

Italy striker Balotelli joined Liverpool from AC Milan last month in a deal worth an estimated €20 million and the player continues to court controversy both on and off the field.

Dalgish, however, told the Daily Mail that he has no doubts about the impact the 24-year-old will make at his new club.

“Liverpool is the perfect place for him,” he explained. “He has a coach there who will instil him with discipline and I’m certain that he will become a great asset to the side.”

“As a footballer he’s fantastic, he can make a huge contribution and the fans will welcome him with open arms.”

Balotelli is best known by fans in England for a turbulent spell at Manchester City in which he scored 20 goals in 54 league appearances.

After his time at the club was marred by a series of outlandish antics, however, Liverpool fans will be hoping that the mercurial forward has matured during his spell in Milan.
