De Sanctis – Roma

Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis has explained his side just wanted to make a good impression following their return to the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

The Giallorossi crushed opponents CSKA Moscow 5-1 in their opening Group E fixture, with Gervinho grabbing a brace.

“The expectations were so high, we just wanted to make a good impression upon our return to the Champions League,” De Sanctis told Sky Sport Italia.

“We attacked immediately and they were surprised. The result is deserved, although its a shame about the goal we conceded today. Hopefully it doesn’t turn out to be important.”

The keeper then went on to reflect on Roma’s group which also contains Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

‘We started as the fourth seeds, so the situation was not a surprise, it could always have happened. We cannot undervalue ourselves because we are strong, but to get through this group would be fantastic.”
