Dnipro coach Myron Markevych has blamed his side’s 1-0 defeat to Inter on the red card shown to Ruslan Rotan in their opening Europa League Group F game.

The former Ukrainian national team coach was outraged by the decision to show his captain a second yellow card for a challenge on Fredy Guarin, believing that it cost his side the match as Danilo D’Ambrosio scored the only goal at the NSK Olimpiyskiy just three minutes later.

“I do not understand what happened,” the 63-year-old tactician said during his post-match press conference.

“I thought it would be a free-kick but the yellow card and being removed from the game, for me, it is not clear.”

Dnipro were unbeaten in their seven previous games in all competitions ahead of their match against Inter and had not lost in five European home games since the last time they had Italian visitors, Fiorentina winning 2-1 during the 2013/14 Europa League group stage.
