Inter president Erick Thohir has stated that he firmly believes in coach Walter Mazzarri and his project, adding that the aim is to build a team that can increase the club’s revenue whilst complying with Financial Fair Play regulations.

The Indonesian has also revealed that the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza will undergo renovations ahead of the 2016 Champions League Final, and that plans will likely be implemented in the coming months.

“We have confidence in the project we started last year,” began the Nerazzurri supremo in a brief interview with Inter Channel, “that is to say, build the team and increase revenue in accordance with FFP.

“Mazzarri has raised the team from ninth to fifth place [in one season] and we renewed his contract. [Sporting director] Piero Ausilio has shown us how to be able to build a good team, and we respect the work he has done and for this reason, we chose to go with him.”

The 44-year-old businessman then discussed some of the players whom he considers instrumental in the Biscione’s set up.

“Both Mateo Kovacic and Mauro Icardi are part of the team that we building. Then there are also Dodo and Nemanja Vidic, who are also important players; and together with Ausilio, they are discussing their renewal.

“Despite having these players, we are still a team when we win. There don’t seem to be any problems and we are working to have them with us for longer, even if they have a few more years remaining on their current deals.

“The renovations to the Stadio Meazza? It is looking positive and changes have also been made in Appiano Gentile.

“It will take a couple of years, but the best way to improve the stadium will be discussed in the next few months, both for the Champions League final as well as for Inter. The stadium is important to us.”

Following a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Cagliari at home, Inter will resume Serie A duty on 5 October when they visit the Stadio Artemio Franchi to take on Vincenzo Montella’s Fiorentina.
