Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez has been ruled out for a minimum of three weeks with a thigh injury ahead of the Viola’s clash against Sassuolo.

The 29-year-old German made just five league starts last season due to injury woes and he has now suffered a first-degree myotendinous strain in the flexors of his right thigh which will see him miss around three weeks for the Gigliati.

Sky Sport Italia report that the striker suffered the injury in the final minutes of Fiorentina’s win over Atalanta on Sunday and has already begun rehabilitation with further tests due to be conducted after a period of 10 days.

With Giuseppe Rossi already ruled out for several months due to his recurrent knee injury, the responsibility will fall on Josip Ilicic and the explosive Juan Cuadrado to deliver the goods for Fiorentina.
