Rudi Garcia is set to use Francesco Totti as his side’s main attacking weapon in the Champions League this season at the expense of using him in the league.

Totti, who turns 38 before the end of the month, is believed to be desperate to win a second Scudetto with the club he has played for his entire career but is also keen to have an impact on the Champions League.

According to a report in Wednesday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, Totti has left the decision about his usage up to the Frenchman and it is thought he will opt to start him in Europe more than Serie A.

This strategy is set to be put into practice this weekend with ‘Er Pupone’ likely to be rested against Empoli but will start their opening Champions League clash against CSKA Moscow and will use that system going forward for his captain.

Totti, who will have to settle for losing out on some league goals as a result, has 16 goals in 50 Champions League appearances for the Giallorossi to date.
