Sampdoria defender Daniele Gastaldello is proud to represent Il Doria and believes his team will remain united throughout the 2014-15 season.

The 31-year-old is confident that the Blucerchiati can remain an important side in the Serie A as long as they continue developing younger players like Shkodran Mustafi, who left the Italian club over the summer for Valencia after helping Germany win the 2014 World Cup.

Gastaldello spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about spending the past seven years with Sampdoria and the team’s current unification under coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, while also commenting on his future.

“Sampdoria has made me feel richer inside,” said the Italian, who scored a stoppage time equaliser for La Samp to secure a 1-1 draw against Palermo on August 31.

“I’ve seen it all here, the good and the bad, including a last second loss of qualification for the Champions League group stage to Werder Bremen a few years ago.

“This is an important squad, a united one. We need to bring up more youngsters at this club. Believe me, there are other players with the potential of Mustafi still at Sampdoria.

“My future? I’ll probably work with a youth team, I see myself as more of an educator than a trainer. In order to get to the top, you must make sacrifices. The technique comes after.”
