Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini felt his side were undeserving of their 1-0 defeat to their rivals Sampdoria.

The Grifone were holding their opponents in check but a late strike from a Manolo Gabbiadini free kick ended the tie.

“From my point of view the result was not the right one,” coach Gasperini told Sky Sport Italia after the final whistle.

“The game had been very balanced and they were very dangerous on set-pieces. I’m very angry about the final result.

“Sampdoria is an excellent team, but I am convinced that we will soon catch up to them in the league,” he continued.

“We have many young players and I am pleased with their own performances, I do not blame any of my players.

“We were good but lacked the finish, and this is a derby so we regret this final result,” Gasperini concluded.
