Roma winger Gervinho believes that the Giallorossi can be successful in the 2013-14 campaign and will benefit from increased squad depth.

The side from the capital have won their opening three Serie A fixtures and the 27-year-old also feels that a strong Roma is beneficial for Serie A’s reputation.

“This year anything is possible,” Gervinho told to Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We already did very well last season, but perhaps having a slightly small squad cost us the title.

“This season there is a lot of competition for places, there are a lot of us and that can only be good news.”

The ex-Arsenal man also spoke about the differences of playing in England, France and Italy after struggling to make an impact in the Premier League.

“Every league has its own characteristics, but playing in Italy I can say that I don’t think the standard has dropped that much.”

“Serie A was and will remain attractive, many great players decided to come here during the summer.

“I can say that we are all working hard to give a different image of Italian football.”

Gervinho also spoke about Roma’s chances in the Champions League where they kicked off in fine fashion by beating CSKA Moscow 5-1.

“There are some great teams in our group, that’s true.”

“Even if three years have passed since we were last in the Champions League, we have players in the squad with experience and this is an advantage.

“We have a lot of belief.”

The Ivorian international then went on to explain how this belief stems from the players faith in coach Rudi Garcia.

“He is loved by everybody at Roma because he was able to achieve good results thanks to his style of play which is based on keeping the ball.”

“All the players buy into his ideas immediately and the results speak for themselves.

“I knew him at Le Mans, then we were together at Lille and now at Roma.

“I can say that we know each other well, I know what he wants and vice versa.”
