Emanuele Giaccherini - AzzurriSunderland midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini has revealed that he enjoys playing an important role for both club and country, though he admits that training with Italy takes a lot of energy.

The 29-year-old was recently included in Antonio Conte’s first Azzurri squad and appeared in his country’s two wins over the Netherlands and Norway, while still managing to take the field for The Black Cats in their 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Giaccherini spoke to Sunderland’s official website about his eagerness to return to training with the Premier League side despite a tiring two weeks with Italy and expressed his hopes to continue doing well for both teams in the future.

“I feel much better, I was tired after returning from international duty on Wednesday and only made two training sessions but I wanted to be involved,” said the former Juventus man.

“The head coach asked if I was okay to play for 20-30 minutes against Tottenham and of course I was I wanted to.

“They were two tough games with Italy, I was privileged to be involved in both, which were both two very big wins.

“It’s nice to be able to play a part in important games for both your club and country and I’m hoping to have a lot more of that this season.”
