Hellas Verona are discussing an exchange deal with Cagliari that would see Uruguayan defender Alejandro Gonzalez head to Sardinia with Italian centre-back Simone Benedetti possibly heading the other way.

Benedetti only joined the Isolani in the summer of 2014 from Inter and is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Rossoblu.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the club’s directors are in discussions at the famous Atahotel in Milan to try and finalise a deal before the transfer window closes.

The Rossoblu are reportedly ready to offer Benedetti on loan to Gialloblu as they look to bring in Gonzalez.

The 26-year-old Uruguayan joined Verona in 2013 and became noteworthy for conceding four penalties in 13 league appearances.

Benedetti spent the 2013-14 season on loan in Serie B with Padova where he made 33 appearances.

Gonzalez’s transfer would not take up a non-EU spot for Cagliari as the player also holds a Spanish passport.
