Palermo coach Giuseppe Iachini believes his side committed suicide during their 2-1 defeat to Hellas Verona.

Franco Vazquez opened the scoring but goals from Luca Toni and Juanito Gomez put the game out of reach.

“We started the game well but we committed suicide in the second half,” Iachini told the press post-match.

“I wanted to play a high defensive line to null the threat of [Luca] Toni but our naivity cost us this result.”

Palermo were in the ascendancy but a defensive mix up allowed Juanito to score and take all three points.

“We came close to scoring on a number of occasions and I thought we deserved more goals, it’s a shame,” he continued.

“The team’s performance has been good and we showed great personality on the field.

“We do regret this result but this is a group of young players that can still grow,” Iachini concluded.

Palermo have yet to win in their opening two Serie A games this season despite scoring three goals.
