Palermo coach Giuseppe Iachini rued his side’s inability to finish off the match against Sampdoria in the Rosanero’s first game back in Serie A.

The home side had led since Paulo Dybala’s seventh minute goal and had a man advantage from just before half-time but in the end were forced to settle for a point after Daniele Gastaldello’s late equaliser.

“In the end we wasted our chances to finish off the match,” said Iachini to Mediaset Premium.

“We should have paid more attention on [Daniele] Gastaldello’s equaliser but above all we should have scored another with the man advantage.”

The former Sampdoria coach was proud regardless of his side’s showing in their first fixture and did not want to worry solely about their failure to close out the game.

“We’re looking forwards but it was a shame.

“But, above all else I’m proud of my side’s performance.”

Palermo’s next fixture is away to Hellas Verona on September 14.
