The hosts Palermo took a 1-0 lead through Franco Vazquez but Mateo Kovacic’s equalizer saved Inter’s blushes in the second half. The Nerazzurri fell behind early on when Nemanja Vidic failed to clear the ball resulting in Fabio Vazquez scoring.

“We survived a difficult moment in the match and started very well in the second half,” Mazzarri told Sky Sport Italia.

“Vidic made a mistake that only happens once every one hundred years.

“We knew we would be pressed high up the pitch by Palermo and in the second half we became the aggressors.”

The match was marked by several questionable refereeing decisions where Inter had scored but ruled offside.

“We tried everything possible,” Mazzarri continued, “but couldn’t get the goal and could even have conceded.

“We are Inter, we have to go to every stadium to win and in doing so we risk defeat.”

Inter could not make up the ground dropped by rivals AC Milan and sit a point behind them.
