Inter defender Juan Jesus believes that the Nerazzurri are ready to challenge for major honours this season after undergoing a rebuilding phase the previous year.

The Biscione have started their first full season under new owner Erick Thohir well with the club unbeaten in all five of their competitive matches thus far.

“Last year we didn’t play in Europe, and this in a sense has influenced the team,” the 23-year-old told Yahoo Brazil.

“Now we’re back in the race, and we aim to turn the page.

“The pressure is always there, playing for a club that has a great tradition and this year will be no different.

“Is the priority the Europa League or Serie A? Our commitment is to play in both competitions at one hundred per cent.

“In a season of change it is always important to win a title.”

Jesus also also went on to discuss the responsibilities of playing for Inter and his relationship with coach Walter Mazzarri.

“I always thank Mazzarri for his confidence in me,” he continued.

“Even though, at the end of the season I got injured, I played some good matches this year, and God willing I can reach 100 games with this shirt.

“Despite the fact that I am young, the leaders and staff have always had faith in me.”
