Manchester United continue their pursuit for Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman by offering either Spaniard Juan Mata or Belgian Marouane Fellaini.

Both Mata and Fellaini have fallen down the pecking order in Louis van Gaal’s midfield at United after the arrivals of Argentine star Ángel Di María, Dutch youngster Daley Blind and Spaniard Ander Herrera who are all top choices ahead of the Spanish and Belgian midfielders.

According to Rai Sport, United will look to use Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini as bait to land their top priority transfer target Kevin Strootman. Roma could see Mata as an upgrade for out of favour midfielder Adem Ljajic. However the former Chelsea man does not seem too keen on making a move to the Italian capital.

Belgium midfielder Fellaini could also be a possible offer from the Red Devils to land the Dutch star but it all depends on Roma’s attempt to lure Paris Saint-Germain youngster Adrien Rabiot to the Stadio Olimpico who is seen as their top priority.

Strootman, who has almost recovered from a knee injury which saw him miss the last few months of the 2013-2014 Serie A season and the 2014 World Cup, could return to action as early as November and, depending on how the Dutchman plays when he returns, United could launch an early bid for the midfielder when the January transfer window opens.
