Guingamp captain Lionel Mathis has revealed that his team won’t feel any fear in their Europa League match against Fiorentina on Thursday.

The Ligue 1 side will be facing off with the Viola in Florence and 32-year-old believes the French club will put up a good fight against their Italian opponents despite a lack of star players in their squad.

Mathis spoke during a pre-match press conference on Wednesday about Guingamp’s ability to overcome the odds and compared the meeting with Fiorentina to the story of David and Goliath.

“Fiorentina are a great team, we will basically be playing as David against the Goliath,” said the midfielder. “We do not fear anyone when we’re on the pitch.

“It’s such a pleasure to be able to be here and play against such a great club. We know of the Viola players, especially Alberto Aquilani, Mario Gomez and Juan Cuadrado.

“Our features? We do not have any star players, but we are a very cohesive group.

“Is this the most important challenge of my career? Personally, no. I had already played at a higher level before I arrived at Guingamp.”
