Maxi Lopez - Napoli v ChievoChievo striker Maxi Lopez hopes his team can continue to do well after their shocking 1-0 win over Napoli on Sunday.

The Flying Donkeys stunned their hosts at the San Paolo with the 30-year-old scoring the only goal of the match early on in the second half and the former Catania man revealed that it’s the first time he has ever been able to secure a victory in Naples since beginning his Serie A career.

Lopez spoke to Sky Sport Italia after Chievo’s upset over Napoli about the win and still praised the Partenopei for their talent on the pitch, while also commenting on his game-winning goal and his eagerness to put in good performances for the Gialloblu.

“I’ve never won three points on this field with any team before in my career,” said the Argentine. “We had been suffering with a team that plays well and were able capitalise on the chance we had to score.

“I’m starting again in a new shirt and I will do my best to honour it, everyone has shown confidence in me here.

“I dedicate my goal to my children and to my team, who worked so hard during this match. We had expected to face a tough team, but we were able to thwart their game and play a great game of our own.”

The striker gave a separate interview to Mediaset Premium after the match about the positive feelings gained from the result and which teams will be top contenders for the Scudetto this season.

“We were crucial at a time when it was most necessary,” he continued. “I’m also happy for myself, as so many things have changed.

“We worked so hard during our summer training camp, but it was good. We have positive feelings, now we have to show continuity after this win and play well at home.

“Napoli are a strong squad and could certainly fight for the Scudetto. They play well and have quality players in the team.

“At the beginning it will take some hard work, but they will fight with Juventus, Roma and AC Milan until the end.”
