Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has labelled his side’s 2-0 victory over Torino on Sunday afternoon as a deserved victory.

The 45-year-old’s side overcame the Granata in the day’s early kickoff in Serie A thanks to a free kick from Manolo Gabbiadini and a superb solo effort from Stefano Okaka.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia after the game, Mihajlovic was clearly happy with the effort put in by his players.

“The win was well-deserved, we played the better football over the game as a whole,” he explained. “We knew that they would come here looking to keep it tight so we pressed them high up the pitch.”

“After the deadlock was broken, Torino had to take a few more risks and that opened up some space for us. The first goal was crucial – Gabbiadini deserved to get on the score sheet and I hope he’ll get plenty more like it.”

Later, when asked about the progress made by goalscorer Okaka, Mihajlovic was equally optimistic: “He’s doing very well, he has all the attributes to be a huge success,” he said. “He’s 25, physically strong and technically-gifted. He’s a really important player for us and needs to keep it that way.

“He’s wasted six or seven years of his footballing career so far but now he’s got himself sorted and he can become one of the best strikers in Italy.”
