Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella insists Mario Gomez has nothing to prove ahead of the Viola’s Serie A match against Atalanta on Sunday.

The Viola have been buoyed by their 3-0 victory over French side Guingamp during their Europe League tie this week and Montella is convinced their convincing victory willmotivate them for this weekend.

“Winning brings enthusiasm and confidence, but now we face Atalanta who can make it difficult for us,” he stated at his pre-match press conference.

“They are a well-organised unit with quality players who can beat anyone, but we also know our own strengths.”

The week has brought more positive news for the Gigliati with reports that Juan Guilhermo Cuadrado has entered contract talks with the club.

“He’s calm and I hope we can resolve his contract situation very soon,” the former Roma talisman continued.

Star striker Mario Gomez has revealed his frustration at his poor form but his coach was quick to come to his aid.

“He might be lacking in confidence at the moment, but he must not think that he needs to prove something.

“He doesn’t have to live with this excessive responsibility. He is here to have fun and enjoy scoring goals.”
